1. Who We Are

This Privacy Policy describes how the Meme Maker app (“we”, “our”, “the app”) handles information when it is installed on a Wix website. The app is developed and operated by an independent developer and is distributed through the Wix App Market.

2. Roles

The site owner who installs the app is the data controller for the meme generators they create and for any email addresses they choose to collect from their visitors. We act as a data processor, operating the app’s backend on the site owner’s behalf. All generator and lead data is stored in the site owner’s own Wix Data collections on Wix infrastructure and is subject to Wix’s Privacy Policy.

3. What Data the App Processes

Generator content (entered by the site owner): templates, images chosen by the site owner, default captions, watermark text or logo, blocked words, texts and appearance settings. Stored in the site’s Wix Data collections.

Making a meme: the meme is drawn entirely in the visitor’s browser. The captions a visitor types, and any photo they choose from their own device, are never uploaded to the app’s server or to the site. Downloading, sharing or copying the image happens on the visitor’s device.

Email before download (only if the site owner turns it on, paid plan): when a visitor submits the form, the app stores the email address, the name if the site owner asked for it, and which template was used. The app also adds the visitor to the site owner’s Wix Contacts.

Usage counts: anonymous counters per generator and day (views, memes started, downloads, shares, and how often each template was used). They contain no personal data and no meme content.

4. Cookies and Local Storage

The app does not set any cookies. In the visitor’s browser it uses sessionStorage to remember that a view was already counted in the current session, to keep a copy of the generator for faster loading, and to remember that the visitor already left an email in this session. These values are cleared when the browser tab is closed.

5. Third-Party Services

The app uses no analytics, tracking or advertising services of its own and loads no third-party fonts (its fonts are bundled). Template images are loaded from the addresses the site owner chose, usually the site’s own Wix Media. When a visitor taps Share, their device’s own share sheet opens; nothing is sent until the visitor picks an app. If the site already uses Google Tag Manager, the widget adds meme_download and meme_share events to the page’s data layer in the visitor’s browser.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

Generators, leads and usage counters persist in the site owner’s Wix Data collections until the site owner deletes them or uninstalls the app. Deleting a generator does not delete the leads it collected. Site owners can delete any lead from the Leads tab of the app dashboard or in the Wix CMS.

Because the app stores leads on the site owner’s behalf, the site owner is responsible for having a lawful basis for that processing, for telling visitors in their own privacy policy that email addresses are collected, and for responding to data-subject requests using the delete tools in the dashboard and in Wix. The app can show a consent checkbox with text chosen by the site owner. We do not use any of this data for our own purposes, do not sell it, and do not share it with third parties.

8. Children’s Privacy

The app is not directed at children. Site owners should not use the email form to knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 (or the age of digital consent in their jurisdiction).

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date above reflects the latest revision.
